Trying to label John Scofield's work is nearly impossible: post-bop, funk-edged jazz, R&B, for all we know he may be inventing a whole new genre at this very moment. And for as varied as his musical stylings are, there also seems no end to the breadth of Scofield's musical collaborations. Whether challenging the form with Pat Metheny, cruising with Medeski, Martin & Wood, or jamming with Gov't Mule, the soulfulness of Scofield's tone and chops makes him instantly recognizable to his ever-growing legion of fans.
This JSM20 of Scofield's signature instrument reflects his desire to offer a guitar that meets his high standards, but falls within the reach of young working players. The JSM20's semi-hollow body is visually refined work of craftsmanship that enables clean, clear, warm tone: a character further enhanced by the 3pc neck.
For extended tone options, the JSM20 comes with two Super 58 pickups and a Tri-Sound switch for the neck pickup that allows you to select humbucker in series (traditional), parallel (brighter, single coil type tone w/ lower output and hum cancellation) or coil-tapping for a single coil sound. An ART1 bridge provides improved sustain and tuning stability.
- CASE/GIG BAG: Hard case included.
Tri-sound switch
The Tri-sound switch gives a humbucker pickup three different sounds, expanding the versatility of your guitar.
Gibraltar Artist bridge
The Gibraltar Artist bridge, made of a light weight Aluminum bridge frame and Zinc saddles, provides natural tone, rich sustain and tuning stability. The low positioned saddles promise comfortable playability.
Ebony Fretboard w/ Artstar Fret Edge Treatment
Ebony produces a tight low end and mid-range with a defined high end attack. It also delivers quick response and rich sustain.
Super 58 pickups
The Super 58 pickups deliver smooth, nuanced tones along with a crisp, biting growl.
Bone Nut
The Bone nut provides richer tone from low to high.
Quik Change III Tailpiece
The Quik Change III tailpiece enables faster and easier string changing.

At Easy Music Center, we care for our instruments from the moment they arrive to when they ship to your door. All instruments are stored in a climate controlled environment and put through a 12-point inspection checklist before being shipped.
First, we check the finish of the instrument, carefully inspecting any blemishes on the surface. Next, we check the playability and setup by inspecting and adjusting the truss rod (if available), bridge, nut, and frets to manufacturer factory specifications. Any request made outside of manufacturer factory specifications can incur additional charges for parts and labor. If the instrument has electronics, we test all of the electronic components to make sure they are functioning properly.
After a thorough inspection, we then move on to maintenance. We start by lubricating any moving parts on the instrument, such as tuning machines. We then move on to cleaning and oiling the fretboard along with the frets.
Once maintenance is done, we stretch and tune the strings and play test the instrument. After this, we do a final inspection and clean/detail the instrument before packing it up for shipment.
We’re excited to be a part of your instrument buying experience.
